The Solider (Ronin) Character Bio
- Set in Edo Period, master was slain in the battle of Sekigahara.
- A master warrior, fought in many battles, killed lots of men.
- Scared of death didn't perform hari kiri (suicide), causing him to lead the belief that he has lost all honour
- Used to be part of a noble house, yet family went bankrupt. Causing him to live a life of a peasant
- Has had a loved one died in the battles leading up to the Edo period
- Greedy and ambitious
The character of the solider is
going to be my primary use for designing my character concept art and
environment. Giving him a setting of a ronin, will give the character a very
warrior like look, yet keeping him gruff and unkempt. The character is also
going to have a quite a blunt, and simple state of mind. As a samurai though he
keeps true to his samurai way of life by living by the sword, training by the
sword and hopefully dying by the sword. Most Ronin’s would normally have to
have to perform Hari Kiri, as they would have no master or lord to follow. Yet
this character is going to be classed as a coward, as he fled from the idea and
became a hired mercenary.
As he known of poverty he is both
greedy yet generous to those in need. His skills as a samurai often get himself
into trouble, as he is well known for his skill and is ambitious and often
harsh yet fair.
When looking at how to portray
this character there are a few references that I want to look at, what the
solider has been through, as he is a war veteran I want him to be in his early
30’s and to have some distinctive scars and marking showing that he has spent
time in battle.
